CFO Copilot by Centered Networks · In development · Proof of concept

A finance seat in the AI operating system for nonprofits

A finance agent for nonprofit CFOs that explains the numbers and never touches the money.

CFO Copilot checks budgets and reports against your actuals and drafts the work around your numbers: variance commentary, the finance committee report, funder financial reports, and audit preparation. It can't pay, post, sign, or file anything. Your finance team reviews every draft.

Proof of concept: about four weeks

What you get

  • Three of your own month-end tasks, run with the agent and measured against how long they take today
  • An error log, an AI-use note for your board and auditor, and a recommendation that can be “stop”
  • A choice of where it runs: hosted by us with Mission Control, or in your own Microsoft 365

CFO Copilot is not built as a product yet. A proof of concept is available, and founding partners help shape the build. Microsoft licensing is separate from our fee.

Who it is for

For finance teams of one to three who spend the month explaining it.

  • Nonprofit CFOs and finance directors whose books close on time, and whose committee report, funder reports, and audit requests then land on the same one or two people.
  • Part-time and fractional finance leads, and executive directors who carry the finance role themselves.
  • Foundation CFOs and controllers who report to an investment or finance committee and track grants payable and payout.
  • Organizations on Microsoft 365. It isn't for anyone who wants AI to pay bills, reconcile the bank, or post journal entries.

What it does

The explaining, assembling, and chasing around your numbers.

Each task is a starting prompt your team can click. Every output is a draft that shows its arithmetic.

Explain the month

Variance commentary from your budget-versus-actual export: the lines that matter, why they moved, and the questions finance should answer.

Finance committee report

The finance section of the board packet, written for trustees who don't read financial statements for a living.

Restricted funds

A roll-forward of funds with donor restrictions: new restrictions, releases, balances, and items needing a decision.

Funder financial reports

Grant spending against the approved budget, burn rate to period end, and lines flagged for your review under the agreement.

Budget and scenarios

Next year's budget from your assumptions, and what happens to the deficit, reserves, and months of cash if a grant ends.

Cash forecast

A 13-week view from balances, payroll dates, payables, and expected receipts, with the tight weeks marked.

Audit preparation

The auditor's request list turned into a tracker with owners and dates, draft schedules, and draft management responses.

Form 990 support

Program-accomplishment and Schedule O drafts, plus a list of what your preparer still needs.

Foundation finance

For foundations: a read of an applicant's 990 or audit for your program staff, and a grants-payable and payout view for your accountant.

In the AI operating system

One package for your executive director, not three emails.

CFO Copilot is the finance seat in the AI operating system for nonprofits, run from Mission Control: one approval inbox, a scorecard for each seat, and a record of every draft and decision.

  1. The Grants seat flags a question

A draft proposal has a budget line it can't confirm against the funder's rules.

  2. CFO Copilot checks it against actuals

It shows the figures and the math, and names what it can't decide, such as how the funder counts a cost, for a person to confirm.

  3. Your executive director approves one package

The revised budget, a short change summary, and the open question arrive together for approval.

See the Mission Control concept preview. Every figure in it is made up.

Guardrails

Money is prepared, never moved.

Built in

What it does

  • Shows the inputs and formula behind every figure it computes
  • Reports totals that don't tie before it writes any commentary
  • Keeps funds with and without donor restrictions apart
  • Names tax, audit, and allowability questions and routes them to your CPA or auditor

Your finance team decides

Never

What it will not do

  • Pay, approve, or schedule a payment
  • Post or change entries in your accounting system
  • Sign, submit, or file a report, return, or reimbursement request
  • Say a cost is allowable or a filing is compliant

Where it runs

Two ways to run it, with the same rules.

Both follow the draft-first rule of the agents we run our own company on: an agent prepares, and a person approves.

Hosted by Centered Networks

With Mission Control

  • Your files, mail, and Teams stay in your Microsoft 365. CFO Copilot and Mission Control run in an environment isolated to your organization in Centered Networks' Azure
  • It reads only the finance sources you approve, through permissions your administrator consents to and can revoke. Every action is logged
  • Approvals, the scorecard, and handoffs with other seats. Azure costs are in our fee

Same agent, same rules

In your own Microsoft 365

As an agent in Microsoft Copilot Chat

  • It runs in your own Microsoft 365, under your sign-in, and sees only what that person can already open
  • Working on your own files needs Microsoft Copilot (formerly Microsoft 365 Copilot) licenses for your finance users or metered Copilot Credits
  • Mission Control isn't part of this option today

Either way, it works from the reports your accounting system already exports. Nothing connects to your general ledger, bank, or payroll.

How to start

Prove it on your own month-end first.

  1. Proof of concept

About four weeks, fixed fee. You pick three tasks, we record how long they take today, and your team runs them with the agent on one real reporting cycle. You get the measured results, an error log, and a recommendation, including “stop.” The fee is credited against Setup if you continue within 60 days.

  2. Setup

About three to four weeks, fixed fee, hosted or in your own Microsoft 365. A licensing analysis, written approval of what the agent may read, a sensitivity-label review, a validation cycle on real work, and a runbook your administrator can use without us.

  3. Managed Intelligence

We run it with you after go-live: monitoring, a monthly scorecard review, tuning, and new finance tasks on request. Month-to-month.

Price in writing before you sign. Microsoft licensing and any metered Copilot Credits are separate from the Centered Networks fee.

CFO Copilot is a Centered Networks offering. It is not a Microsoft product and is not endorsed by Microsoft.

Common questions.

Does it touch our money or our accounting system?

No. It can't pay, approve, or schedule a payment, post an entry, sign, or file anything, in either way of running it. It has no connection to your accounting, banking, or payroll systems. It works from the reports and files your finance lead approves.

What can it see?

Only the finance sources your finance lead approves in writing, such as the finance library, budget-to-actual exports, and the finance mailbox. When we host it, it reaches them through permissions your administrator consents to and can revoke, and every action is logged. When it runs in your own Microsoft 365, it sees only what the signed-in person can already open. We review sensitivity labels on every source before it reads anything.

Is it available now?

Not as a finished product. A proof of concept is available today on your own month-end, and founding partners help shape the build of the hosted version with Mission Control.

What if it gets a number wrong?

It can, so it shows the inputs and formula behind every figure it computes and reports anything that doesn't tie before it writes commentary. Your team reviews every draft before it is used. The proof of concept logs every error your reviewers catch.

Is this a Microsoft product?

No. CFO Copilot is a Centered Networks offering that works with the Microsoft 365 you already have. It is built for nonprofit fund accounting: restricted funds, funder reports, the finance committee, the audit, and the Form 990. It is not endorsed by Microsoft.

What licensing do we need?

The proof of concept runs in Microsoft Copilot Chat, which is included with Microsoft 365, at no added Microsoft cost. Working on your own files at Setup can need Microsoft Copilot licenses for your finance users or metered Copilot Credits, so we give you the licensing analysis first. When we host it, Azure costs are in our fee. Microsoft licensing is always separate from our fee.

What do we keep?

Your agent configuration and documentation, and the drafts, approvals, and records produced for you. When we host it, we export all of that to you if you leave, then delete the hosted environment and confirm it in writing. Mission Control's software stays ours.

Pick three tasks from your month-end. We will measure the difference.

Tell us what your finance team spends the most time explaining. We confirm the tasks, the success criteria, and the data that stays out before the proof of concept starts. Organizations that want the whole AI team can become a founding partner.
